Police Crackdown on Uninsured Drivers

The number of uninsured drivers in the UK is one of the highest in Europe and the insurance industry state that uninsured drivers are responsible for a tenth of all accidents and kill 150 people every year.  Police are increasingly using automatic number plate recognition technology to identify uninsured vehicles, and this had led to more than 100,000 vehicles being seized this year, according to insurers.  Drivers convicted of driving without insurance face six to eight penalty points, a fine and possibly disqualification.
