Following the Government's decision to scrap the fund that pays for the nation's speed cameras, many councils may simply switch off their speed cameras.
The fines from speed cameras go to the Treasury and not back to the council, so councils are facing the prospect of having to raise the funding themselves at the same time as other cuts are expected. Oxfordshire has already turned all their speed cameras off, and many other councils have announced reviews into whether to follow their lead.
Whilst some people are delighted by the news, there are concerns from road safety groups that road deaths will increase.
